If it weren't for subtitles, I would never be able to understand the beautiful and cliched lyrics of Bollywood songs. Yeah yeah, all that over-acting should do just the trick, but sometimes knowing what they're singing while on a Swiss mountaintop would probably put the scenes into context better.
However, it often becomes quite hilariously clear that the people translating the songs are either not that fluent in English or have a basic grasp of British vernacular.
Case in point: The song "Beedi" from the recent hit, Omkara.
Watch the lyrics carefully until Bipasha starts singing at 1:04.
I won't spoil it for you, but how the lyric is translated is deliciously and inadvertantly hilarious. It's my new pick-up line!
